There are many variations in being a driver such as a chauffeur, delivery driver, truck driver etc,. However, all these roles require some common qualities such as navigation, route safety, communication and motivation. Here are 20 questions to help you ace a driver interview.
Why do you want to work as a driver?
Address your motivation and passion for the roads and customer service.
“I want to work as a driver because I enjoy being on the road and have always been passionate about customer service. Moreover, I have an extended experience and qualities which perfectly align with this role”.
What steps do you take to ensure safety while driving?
This question is used to evaluate your ability to adhere to safety protocols.
“I make sure to follow all safety rules such as wearing a seatbelt, checking all the brakes, driving within the speed limit and take safe routes”.
What do you do if your vehicle breaks down during your shift?
Address your strategies and through checking of the vehicle before taking off.
“I usually check all the maintenance of the car to avoid any such incidents however, if such a situation occurs I would safely pull over, turn on the hazard lights and inform my dispatcher of the issue”.
How do you deal with a difficult passenger?

“I keep myself motivated by reminding myself of my passion of customer service and take necessary breaks from the road when I have to drive for consecutive days or hours. Additionally, i listen to music or audiobooks”.
How do you ensure vehicle maintenance before your shift?

“I check all the necessary factors such as brakes, gas tank, tire pressure and locks before i hit the road to ensure a safe and smooth journey. Moreover, I clean the vehicle inside out to have a comforting journey.”
How do you deal with a situation where you are running late for a delivery or pickup?
This question is to asses your ability to manage time and what strategy you have if you fail;,
“I would make sure to contact the customer and dispatcher and inform them both the reason of the delay and what time they should expect me to arrive”.
How do you drive during a bad weather?

How do you manage stress during heavy traffic?
Managing stress during heavy traffic is a very important task for all drivers to ensure their safety and avoiding rash decisions.
“I remind myself that the key to dealing with traffic is patience. I manage a safe distance from other vehicles and listen to music to stay calm”.
How do you manage deliveries with tight deadlines?

How do you maintain your vehicle?

How do you encounter unfamiliar locations?
This question is to assess your judgment and decision making.
“If i encounter an unfamiliar location that I deem unsafe I would not proceed with the delivery or trip. I would inform my dispatcher immediately of the situation”.
How do you handle criticism and feedback?
Highlight your ability to handle criticism from passengers and dispatchers.
“I take criticism professionally and treat it as an opportunity to look back at any errors that i have done and try to rectify them”.
